Graphic Novel Update

Issue #1 of the graphic noval has been written. The artist I partnered with is busy toiling away somewhere in China on the first few pages so we can put together something tangible for the many independent (and not-so-independent) comic/graphic novel publishers of the world.

I expect a package to be ready for Q1 2010, which is a lot sooner than I would have thought possible had you asked me a week ago. I suppose I should thank the isolating effect of being an ex-patriate in a medium-sized Chine… Continue

Idea #5

Intro:

I cannot help but laugh out loud every time I think about this particular idea. I'll be the first to admit that it isn't brilliant, that it won't shake the foundations of modern literature and that many people will find it moderately offensive. The good news is that this is exactly what I've always thought good satire should be; but since I'm not a very good satirist - I'm far too literal for that - this idea hasn't gone much beyond a few notes and paragraphs of introduction. At first I… Continue

Idea #4

Intro:

I've always wanted to be a criminal mastermind. The overly-intelligent, engaging, charismatic kind, capable of the sort of high-end jobs you see in classic heist films like Heat, The Usual Suspects, Oceans 11 and 13, and The Great Muppet Caper; the kind you only hear whispers about in the news because if we knew how often they were successful there would be anarchy in the streets with everyone thinking they could be a criminal mastermind...

So I thought to myself, what hasn't been done?… Continue

Idea #3 and an Update on the graphic novel

The steampunk graphic novel I am writing is going international. The artist I partnered with is moving to China to work on a cartoon. A most unexpected turn of events - if this weren't the twenty-first century the book might be sunk...but really in this day and age, it doesn't change anything. On with the show!

Intro:

As with so many of my unfinished novels, I love this one. It is a story about breaking - breaking small rules, a man who takes it upon himself to punish those breaking small rule… Continue

Idea #2

Intro:

I started a short-story about escaping. It was called The Cab Driver and the Hitchhiker. I wanted to look into the different reasons people have for escaping - from complex political pressures to simple fights with loved ones. It probably would have made a better short-play with two people as it ended up being mostly dialogue and didn't go anywhere. Yes, that was a slight insult against plays; but I still think it could have gone somewhere.

Idea:

A cab driver picks up a hitchhik… Continue
